Community Service-Learning

Johnnie is not just a motivational speaker but he is also a successful businessman and philanthropist. Johnnie’s mother always said, “If you surround yourself with good people and ask for help, you can change the world.” Johnnie believed this statement and in 1995 he quit his job as a schoolteacher and founded Alternatives in Motion, a nonprofit organization in Grand Rapids, MI that provides wheelchairs for people with no health insurance or other financial means.

Despite the risk, Johnnie knew this was something he HAD to do. He successfully built the organization from the ground up and today has been able to give away over 650 wheelchairs to individuals in 17 states and 130 Michigan communities. (Average cost per chair: $4,000-$6,000)

Today Johnnie donates the proceeds from his speaking presentations back to Alternatives in Motion to continue helping others. Bring your students together and help them create an invaluable community service-learning program that gives back in so many ways.
